Blue Jays are nervous birds and duck away for cover if they think they have been seen. They are also very loud. Maybe that is why they fly and hide! I have feeders on my 2nd story office window where I work in my home in the Smoky Mountains. I located them high to keep them from bears, raccoon, possum, crows, and squirrels.
