Description
No. 611 was one of fourteen Class ‘J’ passenger locomotives built for the Norfolk & Western Railway between 1941 and 1950 and the only one in existence today. On April 10, 2016, it made a run from Spencer, NC to Asheville and back, hauling 20 cars filled with passengers. Here, the train exits the 1800 foot long Swannanoa Gap Tunnel on the westbound run to Asheville.
