Description
No. 611 was one of fourteen Class ‘J’ passenger locomotives built for the Norfolk & Western Railway between 1941 and 1950 and the only one in existence today. On April 10, 2016, it made a run from Spencer, NC to Asheville and back, hauling 20 cars filled with passengers. This is in the Swannanoa Gap Tunnel as she was about to emerge. I added the sepia tones to give an "old time" look to the image. The light in the tunnel and the just-emerging smoke and steam create a very interesting image.
