Artist's Description
The male Northern Cardinal is a long tailed songbird with a short, thick bill. The male is a bright red in color with black around the eyes and beak. This very common bird is often seen with one of the opposite sex. They love black-oiled sunflower seeds and are frequent visitors to bird feeders. The Cardinal is the state bird of North Carolina.
