Description
The most photographed site in Maine is the iconic view of the Portland Headlight at Cape Elizabeth. This is where Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, who is my cousin and lived 2 houses down from my Nana, composed several of his poems. I have memories of being here with my family and this is where I came Sept 12, 2001 for peace and reflection after the events of the day before. This shot was taken June 2013.

Very beautiful perspective and the clarity and pastel tones of the sky are so calming. Congratulations on your tie for 2nd place in the recent Lighthouses contest.

One of my favorite places. I've never seen it pictured at sunset before...really Special! Love it!! V
John Haldane replied:
Thank you Barbara! The Park guards kick everyone out at sunset and lock the gates, so it is tough to get shots like this. :)

A classic beauty, taken at a lovely hour. Congratulations on the 3rd place win in the recent Best of Blank Greeting Cards contest.

Great photo! Looks like a great place to go and get away from the stress of the world.
John Haldane replied:
Thank you Mike - it is! In fact, I went there Sept 12, 2001 to get away from the stress and news of that terrible day before.
