I took the photo of this man one Friday night. Everything else here is a digital creation. I tried to represent some of the buskers who pass through Asheville in this piece.
Music (the notes and instruments), die (the lifestyle is a gamble every day), the suitcase in the foreground, the people through the door (better off and headed to a hotel), the decaying wall (buskers play anywhere they can), and the cartoony, colorful effects (for all it involves, the lifestyle is still colorful). The tips they collect pay for passage to the next town ... and maybe a beer.
John Haldane is a published professional artist living in Asheville, North Carolina. His artwork has been featured in fine art galleries in Arizona and North Carolina and in calendars, books, and magazines. The magazines include The Scenic, the Laurel of Asheville, The Writers & Artists Quarterly, COSTCO Magazine, Wild WNC News, Camera in the Wild Magazine, and others.
