Words and Rhymes
Gobbledy gook rhymes with book
Took and look, cook and shook
Or does it rhyme with spook?
How we say things must have been
Decided by a kook
So why does bough
Rhyme with cow
But cough
Sounds just like off?
Beaker, sneaker, leaker, right?
But breaker won’t roll off my tongue
Song and gong and tong and long
That’s not how you say among!
Bead and dead, lead and lead
Bass and bass, alas! alas!
Heard and beard, meat and great
Goose and choose, rose and lose
I’m supposed to go to school
To learn to read and follow rules
But if I say words like they look
And read them that way from the book
I’ll never learn to spell a word
And that, my friend, is quite absurd
