Artist's Description

Digital tools now allow for some interesting effects, including combining famous old paintings. Here we have "Oaks by the Sea" painted in 1835 by Carl Gustav Carus with a young couple from a painting called "The Storm" by Pierre Auguste Cot painted in 1880. Each painting was redrawn digitally as a sketch and that line drawing was then superimposed over the original painting. Then the two paintings were merged and repainted in the style of post-impressionist painter, Paul Cezanne. The result is an image that looks original but is, in fact, a merging of three styles.
