Description
This amazing photograph of two feeding humpback whales is one of the highlights of our entire trip. It is rare to see two whales rise together to feed on the krill; usually it is only one. The bird is waiting for krill that escape the huge mouths; he is a real opportunist.
Several whales would swim in a circle, dive, blow bubbles under water to force the krill into a ball in the center of the bubbles, and then (usually) one whale would rise up through the bubbles, open his mouth, and swallow thousands of krill. This went on all around us for at least 45 minutes to an hour.
